Ductless
air conditioners also known as ductless split system air conditioners or mini
splits, are used in homes that don’t have a duct system. They’re sometimes
called split system because they have two or more parts, the condenser unit,
which is installed outdoors, and the compact blower units or evaporative units,
which are usually mounted on walls inside the home. Conduits connect these parts
and carry the power and refrigerant lines.
The
advantage of ductless air conditioners is that they can cool different rooms at
different temperatures because each compact blower unit is equipped with a
separate thermostat. Because of this, these systems tend to be more expensive
than having a central air conditioning system installed.
