Portable air conditioners are
most often used in smaller rooms when building rules or regulations prevent the
installation of a window unit. They cool the air with a condenser coil
contained inside the unit and expel warm air through a large exhaust hose. This
hose goes from the AC to an airtight window kit, sending the exhaust air
outdoors. Window kits are generally included with a portable air
conditioner.
The
condenser and exhaust fan are located within the same casing, making these
units louder than other in-home air conditioners. Advantages of portable air
conditioners are that they are relatively light and usually have wheels, making
them easy to move between rooms, and their installation is simple.
